Letter from the Chairman
Dear Friends:
As you know, this edition of Spectrum may look a bit different from previous issues. This new look pertains to the theme Navigating a New Normal, which speaks directly to what we all have been learning to do throughout the year 2020. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, we have seen a rise in momentum for cultural and political change. We have joined forces in protests against matters relating to police brutality and systemic racism and we have encountered arguably one of the most important presidential elections to date. All while navigating new ways to safely work from home, connect with family and friends, and complete everyday tasks like buying groceries. With having to rethink the way we conduct business as usual; we have also had to transition our efforts into a digital space.
This year we completed our first virtual convention, Insight Reimagined, and launched #SpectrumLive, a series of webinar events sharing insight on matters relating to accounting and finance. We also completed our first virtual student conference and ACAP Program. Our triumph with these new additions is a testament to our ability to adapt. Now more than ever is the time to sharpen and develop new skills and take maximum advantage of the opportunities we have been given.
As we look back at the work our Founders have done over the last 50 years, we must strive to push the envelope harder and continue to advocate for the change in our profession. By creating a strong awareness, opportunities for us and those behind us will follow.
To our Members, we understand this year has been no easy coup. Your ability to prevail despite the hardships 2020 has thrown our way has only inspired us to continue to forge ahead. There is so much more that we can and must do. We have no limitations. Let’s continue to get work done – together and A.I.M. for the next 50 years.
Herschel Frierson
Chairman of the Board
